Biography
Raphael was born April 6, 1483 in Urbino, Italy. Urbino is a small cultural center that encourages the arts. Which is one thing that influenced Raphael to get into art. Raphael lived with mom and dad. His dad, Giovanni Santi was a famous painter for the Duke of Urbino. The Duke's name was Federigoda Montefeltro. Sense Raphael's father was an artist he taught him a lot throughout the years. Giovanni exposed Raphael to principles of humanistic philosophy at the Duke of Urbino's court. His father then past when Raphael was only 11 years old in 1494. He took over his father's workshop when he past. Raphael kept increasing skill as time went on, and then came to be considered the best artist in town (Urbino). Raphael then began painting in the Church of San Nicola in a neighboring town called Castello. Raphael continued to paint and went into architecture. He also moved around a little bit more than just the neighboring town. He lived in Florence from 1504 to 1507, and went to Rome to paint Stanzad' Eliodro or The Room of Heliodors from 1509 to 1511. He also was an apprentice to Perugino. Started being an apprentice in 1504. After becoming an apprentice he painted a series of "Madonna's" paintings. He went into architecture when he was hired by Pope Julius II to be his chief architecture. Raphael later died while painting "The Transfiguration". He died on his 37th birthday with no knowing of that the cause might have been.
